Booster labels

Optimize the detection performance of CDs and DVDs

The Nedap Booster Label is a unique RFID application for metalized items such as CDs and DVDs. The performance of standard RFID labels applied to CDs and DVDs is reduced by the size of the tag and the metal in the CDs/DVDs. This reduces the reading and detection distance of the labels as such. The Booster Label has especially been developed by Nedap for these library items. Using the booster label optimizes the performance of the identification/ anti-theft functions at selfservice counters and especially between EAS antennas significantly.

RFID labels

RFID labels consist of a chip/antenna combination placed on a plastic inlay. The label has a read/write memory, in combination with an anti-theft function. After check out, at the checkout counter, the antitheft function is automatically turned off. When the label is read, the item automatically receives the relevant status in the library management system and the security status is set.

RFID and metal

RFID has many advantages to easily identify an object, but as every other technology it also has its limitations. The biggest limitation of RFID is metal. When a product with an RFID label is placed near a metalized object or the object to be identified is out of metal the read range will be reduced significantly. Metal absorbs the energy and therefore it is possible that there is not enough energy left for an RFID label to send the information to an RFID reader.

Label quality

The quality of the RFID labels used in a library is one of the factors to make the implementation of RFID successful. The RFID reader sends energy to the label so it can transmit the information it is containing. The signal that is sent from the label should be strong enough te be detected by the reader.
